Duct heaters and accessories

Duct heaters are very important components of ventilation systems, responsible for the effective heating of air transported through ventilation ducts. In combination with coolers and appropriately selected accessories, they enable precise temperature control in supply air systems. Alnor offers reliable and efficient solutions for industrial and commercial ventilation and heat recovery systems.

What is a duct heater and what does it do?

A duct heater is a component of a system that is responsible for heating the air flowing through the ventilation system. Installed directly in ventilation ducts, it is most often used in mechanical supply ventilation systems, where it is responsible for achieving and maintaining the desired temperature of the air supplied to rooms.
It can function as an independent heating source, e.g. in individual rooms, or as an integral part of a larger system, e.g. in conjunction with an air handling unit with heat recovery. Thanks to its design and efficiency, the duct heater effectively supports the system in maintaining thermal comfort in residential, office and industrial buildings, especially in the autumn and winter seasons.
Application of duct heaters in ventilation systems
Duct heaters are widely used in modern ventilation systems wherever it is necessary to effectively maintain the temperature of the air supplied to rooms. Thanks to their universal design, they can be installed in residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
They are most commonly used in:
industrial buildings, where it is necessary to ensure stable temperature conditions in large production or storage areas;
office buildings and public facilities, where thermal comfort directly affects the well-being and productivity of users;
single-family homes with heat recovery, where duct heaters support the system in heating the supply air during winter.
Thanks to their fast heating, easy temperature control and simple installation, duct heaters are the ideal solution for installers and designers looking for an effective way to heat air in ventilation systems. They work well as both a main and auxiliary heat source, especially in combination with air handling units and automation systems.

Types of duct heaters available from Alnor

Alnor offers a wide range of electric and water duct heaters designed for use in modern ventilation systems, including installations with heat recovery. The devices are available in various power ratings and diameters (e.g. 100–400 mm), allowing them to be precisely matched to specific installation conditions.

The range includes, among others:

HDE and HDE-CO – electric duct heaters for installation in round ventilation ducts, made of galvanised sheet metal and available in single-phase or three-phase versions. They are suitable for typical supply air systems;
HDW – water heaters designed for use with central heating systems. Thanks to their compact design, they can be used in office and industrial buildings;
HRQ-P-HDE – secondary electric heater, installed behind the exchanger in the recuperator, for heating supply air;
HRQ-PRE-P-HDE – electric preheater, protecting the heat exchanger against freezing in sub-zero temperatures;
HRQ-PremAIR-HDE – dedicated duct heater for Alnor PremAIR recuperation systems.

CHDW - the CHDW duct cooler/heater deserves special attention. It is designed for domestic ventilation systems and allows the air supplied to rooms to be cooled in summer and heated in winter. The CHDW cooler/heater can work with a domestic heat recovery system. Mounted on the supply air duct and equipped with a 3-way valve and an actuator, it can be controlled by PremAIR, SlimAIR and MinistAIR recuperators, which are equipped as standard with appropriate operating algorithms and season detection.

The offer also includes accessories for easy control and regulation, such as:
Pulser – electronic controller for HDE heaters;
R31 – room thermostat for precise temperature control;
TG-K330 – duct sensor for monitoring the air temperature in the duct.
Thanks to the variety of products, materials (e.g. galvanised sheet metal, stainless steel) and accessories, Alnor duct heaters can be easily adapted to individual customer requirements, both in terms of power and operating conditions.

Heaters for heat recovery

In ventilation systems with heat recovery, the duct heater plays a key role in ensuring the continuous operation of the air handling unit and maintaining thermal comfort. Depending on the system configuration, it can operate as a pre-heater or a secondary heater.
A pre-heater installed in front of the heat exchanger heats the outside air with a negative temperature, preventing it from freezing and protecting the exchanger from damage. This solution is particularly important in winter months when temperatures drop below zero.
A secondary heater, on the other hand, is installed behind the exchanger and is responsible for reheating the air supplied to the rooms after the heat recovery process. It allows the desired supply air temperature to be set precisely, regardless of external conditions, which increases the efficiency of the entire heat recovery system.

Why choose Alnor duct heaters?
